The Job Hunt Hustle: Selling Your Superpowers as a Mom, Wife & IT Pro

Okay, graduation is behind me, and now the real fun begins: The job hunt.

I’ve been preparing for this moment for a while. I updated my resume, polished my LinkedIn profile, and practiced my elevator pitch. But then reality hit—how do I sell myself when my resume looks more like “juggling chaos” than “corporate experience”?

Here’s where I learned something crucial: being a parent, spouse, and student has given me some serious superpowers. Want to know why hiring managers should be tripping over themselves to hire me? Here’s my pitch:

  • Multitasking Mastery: Let’s be real—being a mom, wife, and full-time office employee is basically the definition of multitasking. I’ve successfully managed client deadlines, group projects, dinner prep, and a variety of other minor catastrophes. Managing multiple deadlines? That’s my jam. I’ve done it every single day, all day long. So when I say I can juggle, I mean it—no circus act needed.

  • Problem-Solving Prowess: From fixing Wi-Fi issues (yes, again) to negotiating bedtime, my troubleshooting skills are top-tier. I’m used to thinking on my feet and solving problems under pressure. The crazy part? I’m still standing. So when a work crisis arises (as it always does), I can handle it while also managing a toddler meltdown in the background. No problem is too big.

  • Crisis Management: No, I don’t mean dealing with a major network breach (yet). I’m talking about navigating a toddler tantrum in a public place while reviewing a business report. My workday is a whirlwind of interruptions, but I manage to stay calm and meet deadlines. If you want someone who can thrive in a fast-paced, chaotic environment, I’m your person.

My point? Don’t underestimate the skills you’ve gained in the most chaotic moments of your life. The ability to keep your cool while juggling a million things is exactly what employers want. After all, they’re not hiring a robot; they’re hiring someone who’s been tested under fire.

So to all those employers out there: I’m not just looking for a job—I’m looking for a place where I can bring my unique, well-rounded skill set to the table. The fact that I managed to get through school with kids, a spouse, and a full-time office job? That's a bonus.

And if you’re reading this and thinking, “How did she do it?” I have a simple answer: Coffee.
