Halloween Prep with a Teen, a Kid, and a Baby: A Spooktacular Adventure

Published on 29 October 2024 at 12:36

Halloween is just around the corner, and in our house, that means one thing: chaos. With a teenager, a kid, and a baby, getting ready for Halloween is a whirlwind of sugar-filled hijinks, costume shopping drama, and pumpkin carving shenanigans. Here’s a glimpse into our spooky season preparations.

Costume Shopping Drama

Costume shopping is the first hurdle. Our teenager wants something cool and edgy, preferably inspired by the latest pop culture phenomenon. This year, it’s all about the latest superhero movie. After much debate and a few eye rolls, we finally settle on a costume that meets the “cool” criteria.

Our kid, on the other hand, is all about the classics. They want to be a pirate, complete with a hat, eye patch, and a plastic sword. Easy enough, right? Except they also want the costume to be “the best pirate costume ever,” which means multiple trips to different stores to find the perfect accessories.

And then there’s the baby. We get to choose their costume, so we opt for something adorable and easy to put on. A little pumpkin onesie it is! Simple, cute, and perfect for those inevitable photo ops.

Pumpkin Carving Shenanigans

Next up is pumpkin carving. This is where the real fun begins. Our teenager insists on creating an intricate design they found online. After a few failed attempts and a lot of pumpkin guts everywhere, they finally achieve a masterpiece worthy of Instagram.

Our kid is more interested in the mess than the actual carving. They scoop out the pumpkin guts with glee, flinging seeds and pulp around the kitchen. We end up with a simple, happy-faced jack-o’-lantern, but the joy on their face makes the mess worth it.

The baby, of course, is fascinated by the whole process. They watch with wide eyes, occasionally grabbing a handful of pumpkin guts and trying to eat it. We quickly redirect their attention to a toy, but not before snapping a few cute (and messy) photos.

Sugar-Filled Hijinks

As Halloween night approaches, the excitement reaches a fever pitch. Our teenager is planning to go trick-or-treating with friends, mapping out the best routes to maximize their candy haul. They promise to bring back some treats for their younger siblings, but we know most of it will mysteriously disappear.

Our kid is bouncing off the walls with excitement. They can’t wait to show off their pirate costume and collect as much candy as possible. We set some ground rules about how much candy they can eat in one night, but we know there will be some sneaky snacking.

The baby, blissfully unaware of the sugar rush to come, is just happy to be along for the ride. We dress them up in their pumpkin onesie and take them around the neighborhood for a few early trick-or-treat stops. They may not get to eat the candy, but they love the attention and the fun decorations.

The Aftermath

As the night winds down and the sugar high starts to fade, we brace ourselves for the inevitable candy negotiations. Our teenager, with their strategic mind, tries to convince us that they need to keep all the “good” candy for themselves. Our kid, not to be outdone, argues that they should get extra candy because they worked so hard on their pirate costume.

Meanwhile, we’re just trying to keep the peace and avoid a full-blown candy war. We set some ground rules: a few pieces of candy tonight, and the rest will be rationed out over the next few days. This, of course, leads to some grumbling and complaints about fairness.

And let’s not forget our own complaints. After hours of walking around the neighborhood, our feet are sore, and we’re feeling the chill of the October night. “My feet hurt,” we say, “and I’m cold.” But despite the discomfort, we wouldn’t trade these moments for anything. The joy on our kids’ faces and the laughter we share make it all worthwhile.

Reflections on the Madness

Halloween with a teenager, a kid, and a baby is a wild ride, but it’s also filled with laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories. From the costume shopping drama to the pumpkin carving shenanigans and the sugar-filled hijinks, every moment is a reminder of the magic of childhood and the joy of family traditions.

So, here’s to another spooktacular Halloween. May your costumes be epic, your pumpkins be perfectly carved, and your candy haul be plentiful. Happy Halloween from our crazy, wonderful family to yours! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿฌ
